The bird lives here. We were just the visitors.

The rock wall around the city built by the Indians.

Nature pic by Nathan.

Side trip: A very interesting Indian pueblo dating back to about 1200. I didn't know about this place so we decided to stop and have a look.

On our way to Santa Fe which is an older alignment of 66.

New Mexico scene.

Tucumcari. This should look familiar to anyone who has seen the movie, Cars. In the movie, the top of this mountain in Radiator Springs has a car air filter on top of it.

Murals are very popular around here too.

Vintage telephone in our room. Yes, it works too.

Nathan discovers that the car he spotted earlier is actually staying at the same motel as we are. He goes out to meet the guy and talk cars. He found out that he and his wife are from Canada and are traveling Route 66. His name is John but for the rest of the time Nathan referred to him as "Canadian Guy".

A blue swallow is on the front of all the rooms.

A lighted fountain at the Blue Swallow that no longer has water in it.

A mural inside one of the garages at the Blue Swallow Motor Court (as they were called back then).

There's a lot of neon in this town.

Our first view of the car driven by "Canadian Guy" on the streets of Tucumcari. We will cross paths with these people a few more times while on the road.

A night spent traveling back in time at the Blue Swallow Motel.
